One of our favourite clubs needs help! Klub Drushba in Halle/Saale is an amazing place and has always been a home to great music. We’ve had a brief but deep history with the lovely people who run the club – In Golden Tears played their first ever show there, and other bands like Flashguns made some of their first appearances on German soil at this venue. Now the government has shut down the place and came up with sh*tloads of requirements that the club owner needs to take care of before he can re-open. This basically results in sh*tloads of money he needs to invest. That’s why Klub Drushba needs as much as help as possible from music lovers such as yourselves to be able to re-open as soon as possible. Follow the link to the crowd funding website where you can help make a difference with as little as five bucks. There’s also bags, CDs and a concert flat rate you can get in return.
We at Humming Records have decided to throw some of our money into the hat and help Klub Drushba stay. This also means we’ll be having this year’s label party at Klub Drushba. The sooner, the better!

Fuck. This is probably the saddest day in the history of Humming Records.
Flashguns today announced the following:
“We regret to tell you that we have decided to end Flashguns. After five years it’s come to a point where we feel like we need to move on as musicians and people. We have loved every minute of it, but this feels like the right decision. We are sure many people will be disappointed, especially after the recent release of our debut album. All we can say is that when we started this band we wanted it to last forever, but unfortunately that is no longer possible. We hope you will continue to enjoy our music and thank you to all those who have supported us over the years. The Berlin show on February 4th 2012 will be our last.
Sam, Giles and Olly”
We started working with the band over two years ago and we’ve enjoyed every last moment of it ever since. It has been amazing seeing the band grow from their first singles & EP to their incredibly mature debut album “Passions of a Different Kind” which we had the pleasure to release on Humming Records this October.
We first met Flashguns in person on the 7th of July in 2010 before their first ever show in Germany at the Prinzenbar in Hamburg. Although they had never played over here, hundreds of people showed up to the gig, all knowing the lyrics to their songs and singing along loudly. A few days later Flashguns handed us a copy of what would be their debut album. From the first second on we were blown away. We have always believed in these guys, always supported their creativity and music – and will do so forever.
We are glad to call Sam, Giles and Olly our friends and will do so for many years to come and they know they will always have a second home in Berlin. We respect their decision and wish them nothing but the best for their future – both personal and musically. Whatever the futures holds for them: it’s going to be great.
Flashguns are going to play two final shows next year in Germany: Haldern (Jan 21st) and Berlin (Feb 4th). We know they are going to put a smile on many faces (including our own) one more time.
From the bottom of our hearts: Thank you for everything, Flashguns. It’s been worth it!
Vivien. Joerg. Colin.

You need some more convincing? Well, okay then – here’s the video for the brand new single ‘No Point Hanging Around’, shot entirely on 8mm film by Jean-Philippe Blunt and Thom Humphreys, for that amazing extra vintage touch. And hey, it’s not just us loving it: NME did the video premiere in the UK, and tape.tv did an exclusive in Germany. Isn’t that something?
The single is out NOW by the way and features some great remixes, for instance this amazing electronic version which German band & close friends In Golden Tears came up with. We’re currently giving it away as part of our Free Track compilation on Soundcloud. So… it’s free.
Still not convinced? Well… you’re kidding, right?
From today on you can grab Empty Promises, the amazing debut single by Napoleon In Rags on iTunes, Amazon and all other digital stores. There are also two great remixes by German electronic acts VIMES and WAFT AND BREEZE included on it.
You know you want to.
If you’d like to take a look at the video first – here you go:
Finally the wait is over! Flashguns will be releasing their debut album Passions of a Different Kind world wide through Humming Records / Rough Trade on October 17th, 2011 (Germany October 14th). You won’t be believe how happy we are to be finally releasing this album on CD, vinyl and as a download. After working with these great guys for almost two years now, the release of their album is probably one of our most anticipated Humming moments to date. We imagine it being kind of like giving birth to your first baby. Well, you know… more or less.

Rad News: DZ DEATHRAYS are now a member of the Humming family. NME says: #8 best new band 2011. Mark Ronson says: They have brilliant videos and songs and a great sense of humour and style. Q Magazine says: Track of the Day. We Say: They’re simply fucking awesome!
Which is why we are thrilled to be releasing their debut EP Ruined My Life on October 7th in Germany, Switzerland & Austria.

Our partners in crime (all in the UK) are Too Pure Records (Pulled Apart By Horses) who will be releasing the 7″ single, Big Scary Monsters (Andrew W.K, Pulled Apart By Horses) for the EP in Europe outside of G/S/A and finally Kissability, a new cassette label created by Jen Long (BBC1) and the good folks at Transgressive (Foals, The Shins) who’ll put the EP out on tape. Woah. That’s one hell of a team.
When we first came across them at this year’s Great Escape Festival in Brighton we really had no idea what to expect. Until DZ Deathrays rocked our socks off with their massive wall of sound, creating a blend of driving monster beats firing over an avalanche of guitar similar to the sound of a squadron of attacking Panzer tanks.
To see and hear for yourselves – download their single Gebbie St for free on Soundcloud, check out the video for B-Side Rad Solar and go see one of their gigs:
